If you've been wanting to try out charted patterns, be sure to head over to the Pierrot pattern page, from Gosyo Co., Ltd. This is where they put their English translations of Japanese patterns from all categories in both knit and crochet. The patterns here are charted, but the important information is translated to English already. They also have a Ravelry page where you can filter the patterns into different categories, see the projects for the different patterns, and see the patterns that haven't been translated - since they are charted, you may still want to try them. There are some intricate patterns, but also a lot of simple patterns, like the tawashi pattern, which comes in both knit and crochet versions. It is a handy dish scrubbie, especially when made in acrylic yarn, which stays colorful, and it is a great first project for charted work.
