We met our goal of baby hats for Providence so quickly that our goal thermometer hit the top! With Christmas coming, we are setting a goal for items for Friends for Life's Gifts for Grannies (and Grandpas too). They can use lots of items (check out the link). These will be shared with people in our community this Christmas. We are still collecting baby items, so keep on bringing those as well!
Welcome Waco Knitter newcomer Sylvia! Yarn Art in work: baby hats, shawl, car seat blanket, stuffed toys, another shawl, more baby hats, socks, adult hats, pillow, Christmas afghan, more socks, kimono, baby afghan, and a couple cable afghan.
STORY: Waco Knitter Hannelore's grandbaby Felix was born 7-17-2014 at Providence and when the nurse came in with a knit baby cap for him, out of the 850 hats we've donated this year, the one Felix received was one Hannelore had made!!!!! Hannelore had several nurses make it a point to say how much the baby hats are cherished that some of us handcraft and donate to the newborns. Thank you - you are appreciated!
On July 1st, 113 baby hats, blankets and booties were delivered to Providence Hospital for Waco Newborns from Waco Knitters & Friends bringing the year-to-date total to 850 items. Thank you to every one who donated and shared their love with new Waco parents!
Waco Knitter Sandy has a personal ministry where she raises money through her craft booth at Craft Gallery, collecting and delivering items for the 25-bed Waco Veterans Administration Hospital Hospice patient ward. And of course, the always-generous Waco Knitters help her make it possible by saving their travel size toiletries and magazines. Waco Knitter Gayle even uses coupons and buys the much-enjoyed fruit cups and other drug store freebies like toothpaste.
Additionally, at Christmas, 25 Waco Knitters each take an empty gift bag and fill it with items an end-of-life hospice patient might enjoy.
Thanks to all who participate! God Bless our Veterans.
