Just a reminder, this month we will be meeting on the 3rd Thursday (Dec 18th, 5 - 7pm) at the West Waco Library due to Christmas. Merry Christmas, and we hope to see you there!
We had a great time at the Mayborn Museum's Christmas in the Village event this afternoon! Honey, Cathy, Cynthia, Karen, Sara, and Barbara dressed up in period costume and knit and crocheted in the Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village. There were other groups and activities there as well, including woodcarving, coil baskets, hot apple cider, and kettle corn. The kids and their parents were really excited to learn about historic hobbies and what life was like in the 1890s. Waco Knitters had a variety of crocheted, knitted, and tatted items from hats to doilies to a tablecloth. We also displayed antique pattern books. The staff at the Mayborn was very welcoming and did a great job setting up a fun day for all!
Early this year, Waco Knitters selected the (optional) group ministry to hand knit, crochet, make items for Friends for Life's "Gifts for Grannies (and Grandpas too)!" Christmas campaign to get a gift to the 4000 local elderly and disabled that would otherwise not receive a gift. As of this week, 177 gifts have been made & donated:
These "Gifts for Grannies" will be delivered to the Texas Ranger Museum, Waco, TX at 1 pm on Dec 13th during the "Big Texas Christmas Present" event. One free entry to the museum per item - bring your family!
Still requested by Friends for Life, any time, are warm lapghans and towels (crocheted topper type??). Thank you for your kind spirits.

If you are looking for some great patterns for our various ministries, take a look at Bev's Country Cottage. She has a collection of free patterns for baby hats, sweaters, and more, along with other patterns for lapghans and wheelchair bags, and more. It is a good place to get some ideas for things you can make. The patterns cover knit, crochet, sewing, and more.
The Waco Knitters & Crocheters club recognizes its 6th Anniversary with a celebration at Practically Pikasso this Thursday Oct 23rd at 5pm and paint ceramic Yarn Bowls.
Oct 2008, nine people took a free knitting class at the South Waco Library taught by teacher Jill Quick. To continue learning, the Waco Knitters club was formed afterwards.
Today Waco Knitters is mainly a social club with no fee or commitment. Over 80 people actively participate with around 25 people at each twice-a-month meetup.
The group meets twice a month at local libraries and once a month for happy hour/dinner. Various speakers and demonstrations are held at the meetups. Occasional 'extra' group activities are offered like HOT Fair demonstrating and teaching crochet at Mayborn Museum "Christmas in the Village".
Each year, group ministries are chosen with optional participation. For 2014, Providence Hospital baby hats (1114 made to date), Friends for Life's "Gifts for Grannies" (100 made to date) and the VA Hospital Veterans ward (24 patients, 24 hats made to date) were selected to share with the local Waco community.
For more information, come to a Meetup or Contact us. All welcome and we look forward to meeting you soon.
